Hospital Accreditation
- Hospital Receives Full Three-Year Accreditation
- February/09: The Board of Directors of Accreditation Canada recently announced that the Atikokan General Hospital has been granted a full three-year accreditation award for the period 2008-2011. This achievement is significant as Atikokan General was one of the first hospitals in Canada to be reviewed and critiqued against the new Accreditation Canada guidelines and criteria, Qmentum.
The report contained numerous accolades including the following statement: “Congratulations for your organization’s leadership and staff commitment in your review and quest for improvement. By participating in the accreditation process, you are demonstrating a commitment to providing quality care and service, and this should be celebrated.”
Accreditation is a cornerstone of quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, enabling an organization to regularly and consistently assess and improve its services.
Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum program offers a customized process aligned with organizational needs and principles. Organizations complete self-assessment questionnaires, collect indicator and instrument data, and undergo an on-site survey during which peer surveyors assess their services against national standards of excellence. Qmentum also offers ongoing support and liaison with Accreditation Specialists who work with each organization to address critical issues, assist with action planning, and monitor progress.
Atikokan General Hospital Board Chair Joan McIntosh and CEO Robert Wilson extend their sincere thanks and congratulations to the staff, physicians and our community for a job well done. Also, special thanks to our Accreditation Coordinator, Linda Morelli, who kept us “on track” during the process.
