- The Atikokan Family Health Team (formerly Atikokan Medical Associates) are a team of physicians providing rural health care services to the community. They work together in the Medical Clinic, a well-designed facility located in the heart of the community. The large single office shared by all the physicians promotes professional discussion and information sharing. The Medical Associates are active participants in teaching with a regular rotation of medical students and residents from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) and also learners from other medical schools.
Atikokan FHT work in a collegial group practice with the support of excellent staff. They work out of a newly renovated clinic using an electronic medical record and provide coverage in a well-equipped, modern community hospital with Meditech access. Emergency work required; obstetrics optional but an asset. Atikokan General Hospital supports a low risk Obstetrics program, and offers chemotherapy in consultation with Cancer Care Ontario, Thunder Bay.
