Operational Support Services
Environmental Services
Our Environmental Services team is the unsung hero of the hospital and health care environment. They play an integral role as the first line of defense against infection prevention and control. We have a highly trained group of dedicated department members who perform critical tasks such as medical cleaning and disinfecting—including patient and resident rooms and medical equipment—to ensure a level of cleanliness that ensures safety for all.

Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) and Stores
Safety in an environment that involves around-the-clock care includes many different roles. Medical device reprocessing is the critical behind-the-scenes process of cleaning, reconditioning, disinfecting and sterilizing reusable medical equipment for future use. In partnership with Riverside Health Care MDR, this sterilization is done with careful attention to detail and strict standards as a starting point to effective infection prevention and control.
Our MDR and Stores departments ensure that Atikokan Health & Community Services is always supplied with items needed to provide quality care to our community members.
Pharmacy
Accredited through the Ontario College of Pharmacists, the Atikokan Health & Community Services Pharmacy Department provides pharmaceutical services for our in-patient and emergency departments. The Pharmacy staff members work collaboratively with the physicians and other health-care professionals. Medication reviews are offered through our Atikokan Family Health Team pharmacist.

Procurement
Our purchasing department ensures that we get the best contracts, pricing and quality products from vendors to best serve our community. Procurement and our Stores staff manage our inventories for all of Atikokan Health & Community Services. This small but mighty team also orders all supplies and equipment for our other sites in the community, with a streamlined process that allows us to focus our energy and resources on the areas that matter most.

Emergency Department
The Emergency Department entry is typically locked and visitors must lift the phone handset at the entrance, where a nurse will respond and assist with entry. If the door is already open, please check in at the registration desk before proceeding to visit a patient.
While you’re here, we care for you, too. You can access refreshments in multiple locations:
- A coffee maker and water dispenser are located in the acute care patient kitchen
- The long-term care wing also has a water dispenser
A nurse will be happy to help you find what you need.

Please Note: Temporary Restrictions May Apply
To keep our patients, residents, staff, and community safe, visiting hours or access may change during times of increased risk—such as respiratory illness outbreaks or other health emergencies.
We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we encourage you to call ahead or check our website or social media channels for the most up-to-date visitor information before arriving.
