Patient Services
Health care is most powerful when it feels personal
Dealing with a health concern or hospital stay can feel overwhelming...
...but we’re here to make every visit as safe, comfortable, and reassuring as possible.
Though small in size, Atikokan Health & Community Services offers substantial support. Under one umbrella, you’ll find a team you can trust: Atikokan General Hospital offering full hospital services with 24/7 physician coverage in the emergency department, and trusted acute and long-term care for patients and residents, with the Atikokan Family Health Team supporting your primary care needs, and Atikokan Community Counselling Services—as well as the Rapid Access Addictions Medicine (RAAM) clinic offering mental health and addictions care close to home.
Rooted in community, we are ready to support you and your family every step of the way and are here for your questions and concerns.
Inpatient Services
When you or a loved one needs to stay with us, our 15-bed inpatient unit offers care that is both comprehensive and compassionate. Services include pediatrics, stabilized cardiac care, general medicine, palliative care, and alternate level of care (ALC) for those who no longer need high-level care but are unable to transition out of the facility while waiting for appropriate supports.

What makes our units special is the people behind them. Our connected team of physicians, nurses, therapists, dietitians, counsellors, pharmacy staff, and administrators work side by side to care for the whole person while recognizing your dignity, privacy, and overall well-being.”

We believe in integrating the provision of services to persons with disabilities whenever possible, or exploring alternate measures when necessary, and giving equal opportunities to people with disabilities.
AHCS is continually working to make all of our spaces more accessible to create a barrier-free and fully accessible facility. Our multi-year Accessibility Planning has helped us identify, remove and prevent barriers to individuals with disabilities who live, work in or use our hospital and community sites, including clients and their family members, staff members, health care practitioners, volunteers, residents of and visitors to our community.
Emergency Department
The Emergency Department entry is typically locked and visitors must lift the phone handset at the entrance, where a nurse will respond and assist with entry. If the door is already open, please check in at the registration desk before proceeding to visit a patient.
While you’re here, we care for you, too. You can access refreshments in multiple locations:
- A coffee maker and water dispenser are located in the acute care patient kitchen
- The long-term care wing also has a water dispenser
A nurse will be happy to help you find what you need.
Please Note: Temporary Restrictions May Apply
To keep our patients, residents, staff, and community safe, visiting hours or access may change during times of increased risk—such as respiratory illness outbreaks or other health emergencies.
We appreciate your patience and understanding, and we encourage you to call ahead or check our website or social media channels for the most up-to-date visitor information before arriving.
